NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED SPEAKERS

Keynote Speaker: Cory Muscara
Founder, Long Island Center of Mindfulness

“Cory is one of the nation’s leading experts in mindfulness meditation.”
-Dr. Oz, The Dr. Oz Show

Cory is the founder of the Long Island Center for Mindfulness. He has extensive professional training in a variety of mindfulness programs such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindful Schools, and Search Inside Yourself.  In 2012, he spent six months in silent meditation living as a Buddhist monk in Burma. He is a 200-hour certified hatha yoga instructor, NLP & Ericksonian Hypnosis practitioner, and Duke integrative health coach.

Cory currently serves as faculty at Columbia Teachers College where he teaches mindfulness to school leaders and principals, and is an assistant instructor for the Master of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) at the University of Pennsylvania, where he completed his graduate work. Cory has presented mindfulness to organizations such as Prudential, Johnson & Johnson, Travelers, and Colgate; universities such as NYU, Wharton Business School, and Dartmouth; a number of hospitals and healthcare systems in the New York area; and he regularly appears on the Dr. Oz show as a guest expert in the topic of mindfulness meditation. Featured Speaker: David Creswell
Carnegie Mellon Associate Professor of Psychology

David’s research focuses broadly on understanding what makes people resilient under stress. Specifically, he conducts community intervention studies, laboratory studies of stress and coping, and neuroimaging studies to understand how various stress management strategies alter coping and stress resilience. For example, he is currently working on studies that test how mindfulness meditation training impacts the brain, peripheral stress physiological responses, and stress-related disease outcomes in at-risk community samples. David also explores how the use of simple strategies (self-affirmation, rewarding activities, cognitive reappraisal) can buffer stress and improve problem-solving under pressure.

David has made some recent research forays into other areas, such as in describing the role of unconscious processes in learning and decision making, developing new theory and research on behavioral priming, and in building a new field of health neuroscience.
