Parents and grandparents, explore nature and wildlife with your little ones! These hands-on programs (for children 2-4 years old) are designed using the Content Standards and Learning Criteria for West Virginia Pre-Kindergarten. Each program is one hour in length and includes crafts, songs, and much more!
2020 Spring Preschool Programs
Will Zoo Be My Valentine?
February 5th 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Make a Valentine’s Day card for your favorite animal! Learn what’s to love about our ambassador animals and give our lemurs a heart-shaped treat!
February 26th 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
The monkeys are mischievous and full of energy. Help us entertain the tamarins by making them a toy. Sing a monkey song and go bananas with a game!
March 4th 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Learn the colors of the rainbow through the colors of animals! See the vibrant colors of some of our zoo animals and discover why they are so bright. Create a colorful animal craft to take home, too.
March 11th 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Discover why those little guys are covered in armor and how much that can really do. Meet one of the zoo’s ambassador armadillos, and make an armadillo replica to take home!
Nuts About Nature
March 25th 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
There’s so much to learn from the outdoors! Meet some ambassador animals that are part of our local wildlife and mold animal tracks from play-dough. Then, we’ll venture off into the woods and see what we can discover.
April 1st 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Learn about that all the different types of animals that hatch from eggs, and meet a few, too! Go on an egg scavenger hunt and make a hatching chick craft.
Hop To It
April 8th 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
The Easter Bunny isn’t the only animal that hops. Meet our resident hoppers, play a hopping game based on shapes and colors, then decorate your own jumping frog!
Spots and Stripes
April 22nd 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Many animals have cool patterns to help them camouflage. Create zebra stripes of your own with shaving cream and play a game to match the pattern to the animal. Meet one of our striped ambassador animals, too!
April 29th 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
What would we do without pollinators?! Discover how much we can thank these creatures for. Sing a bumblebee song while we make a craft that demonstrates the pollination process. Then, we’ll check out the zoo’s pollinator garden to see what types of plants and animals we can find!
See You Later Alligator
May 6th 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
See the zoo’s resident alligator and create a chomping gator of your own! Test your “fish-catching” skills and try to “cross a swamp.”
