Meet the Instructors

Betsy Sweeny 
Betsy Sweeny has been teaching yoga for over ten years. She completed her training in the ashtanga tradition, but her teaching style draws on many different yogic traditions. In recent years she has incorporated other forms of energy work into her classes. Betsy is Reiki I certified and hopes to help participants connect mind, body and spirit.

Holly Suter, MA, ERTY500, YACEP
Holly is an Ohio Valley native who has lived in Southern CA since 2003. She began her personal yoga journey two years prior as a student at UVA. Currently, she has over 3200 hours teaching experience and nearly 700 hours training with speciality certifications in Gentle Yoga, Chair Yoga, and Children’s Yoga among others. Holly has taught hundreds of students from across the US and abroad. For nine years, she was the Lead Yoga & Mindfulness Teacher at a wellness retreat that has been featured in the New York Times and Travel & Leisure. Additionally, she is a Yoga Alliance credentialed Continuing Education Provider and trains other teachers. She’s very happy to be home and looks forward to serving her community!

Julie Markel, RYT 200, RCYT

Julie grew up as a multi-sport athlete with a gravitation toward nature, music and meditation. After several injuries and expertise as a physical therapy patient, she became conscious of the value of movement for physical and mental well-being. This awareness guided her to the healing practices of Pilates and yoga. Through her personal experiences, she strives to provide a variety of practices for all levels, ages, abilities and interests.

Julie is a registered 200-hour yoga teacher and 95-hour child yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance. She holds a Kettlebell I certification and earned her Pilates Mat Level I certification from the PHI Pilates Studio of Pittsburgh. She is currently completing coursework to be recognized as a trauma-informed yoga instructor.

Julie’s goal is to meet clients at the soul level. She wants clients to feel welcome, accepted and encouraged. Her teaching style is skillful yet playful and includes props and modifications for a personalized class.

In her spare time, she enjoys live music and outdoor adventures with her husband Austin, three sons and two dogs. True to her Pisces zodiac sign, she loves to be in or around any body of water whether it’s boating, kayaking or paddle boarding.

Kara Baum
Kara is a native West Virginian who grew up in Wheeling. She is an Herbalist with a passion for helping her community by addressing their health needs. She sells her products at some local stores and the Ohio Valley Farmer’s Market, gives speeches on how to use herbs effectively, sees clients, and hosts plant walks. Her goal is to help people better understand how to care for themselves and families using plant medicine.

Lindsay Schooler 
Teaching trauma-Informed, accessible and inclusive yoga is vitally important to Lindsay Schooler, whose life experiences and expansive yoga teacher training allow her to adapt practices to suit any client’s individual needs, even in a group setting. Lindsay offers public and private classes and events for both yoga and paddleboarding in and around Wheeling, WV, sharing her love for specially curating one-on-one and group sessions. Steve Perdok Sr
T’ai Chi and Qigong instructor, Steve Perdok Sr., is an accomplished martial artist in Karate, T’ai Chi, and Qigong. He has over 40 years of instructing children, adults, and senior’s in different modalities of Healthy Arts and exercise. His latest certification is from Dr. Paul Lam’s T’ai Chi for Health Institute for T’ai Chi for arthritis and fall prevention.

Zack Templeton, RYT-200 
Zachary Templeton was born and raised in Wheeling WV. He began his personal yoga practice about 15 years ago, in order to rehabilitate from chronic injury and burnout. In 2018, he graduated from Heartwood Yoga Institute with his 200 hour teaching certification. He holds additional certifications in Aerial, and Yin yoga. He teaches Karma yoga; a routine practice with an emphasis on grounding.
