Wild Encounters Await

Visit West Virginia’s only AZA-accredited zoo, and connect with over 68 species, including rare and endangered animals.

Oglebay Good Zoo is dedicated to conservation, including rehabilitating migratory birds, conserving monarch butterflies, and preserving Eastern hellbenders. The zoo works with the West Virginia Division of Wildlife and participates in important Species Survival Programs (SSPs) to protect endangered species.

Founded in memory of Philip Mayer Good, the zoo is the only AZA-accredited zoo in West Virginia. It offers hands-on learning opportunities through its partnership with West Liberty University and provides innovative enrichment for its animals. Support from donors helps sustain these vital conservation and educational efforts.

Experience one of the most exciting new zoo attractions in West Virginia with the arrival of lions at the Oglebay Good Zoo in Wheeling. Opening in 2027, this immersive exhibit will offer guests the chance to see lions up close while learning about wildlife conservation and habitat preservation.

Located just an hour from Pittsburgh and within easy driving distance of Columbus and Cleveland, this new experience will make Oglebay one of the top destinations for families looking for things to do in West Virginia.

First-of-its-Kind Zoo Experience
The Oglebay Good Zoo will be the first AZA-accredited zoo in the United States to offer a close-up lion experience in a natural, immersive setting designed for both education and guest engagement.

One of the Largest Lion Habitats in the Region
This expansive habitat will be one of the largest lion exhibits in the eastern United States—and the only one of its kind in West Virginia—giving guests a rare opportunity to observe lions in a thoughtfully designed environment.

In addition to animal exhibits, Oglebay Good Zoo features an outdoor obstacle course playground, children’s playground, indoor play area, and the Jumbo Jumper attraction during seasonal operation and weather permitting — all included with general admission.

The zoo train operates seasonally for an additional fee.

Guests can also book special experiences such as animal encounters, night tours, cart tours, educational programs, birthday parties, and overnight sleepovers for an additional cost.
